Carnifliate are a foursome from Slovenia, and they have unleashed a particularly brutal album full of death and grind and humor. Disgusting Festivities is a short, horrific assault on the ears, on good taste, and on political correctness. There is nothing about this album meant to bring comfort, except of course the tongue-in-cheek humor to the proceedings. They are a band that absolutely takes their music seriously, but have fun poking people in the eyes while doing it.
Seriously, this album is akin to someone setting a drunken weasel’s tail on fire and setting it loose inside a sorority house warming party. So much destruction, so much panic and fear, so many laughs. Right out of the gates “Fist Class Cunt” lets you know what you’re in for. There’s speed and grind and brutal death, with crushing breakdowns and those almost hardcore vocals souped-up with death growls and shrieks. All of this in under three minutes. And from there, the album does not let up. Every song races forward, punishing with speed and heaviness, never once overstaying their welcome. “Fried in Fat” is the longest song, and it clocks in at under four and a half minutes. There are no epic jams here, or meandering, atmospheric bullshit. You get about twenty-five minutes of sheer carnage and then you’re left alone to deal with the consequences.
When the party is over, all that is left are dead bodies, blood, and a huge mess to clean up.
Carnifliate are not for everyone. If you find things like this offensive, you’d best steer clear. If you’re not into Deathgrind then you’d better find something else to do with your time. But if these things intrigue you, then by all means, dive right on in. These boys from Velenje have a treat for you, one poisoned with sick riffs, blasting drums, and grinding death.
